Früher als geplant, haben wir jetzt unseren neuen Basecap Store eröffnet. Wir wollten einfach nicht mehr länger warten. Es gibt zwar immer noch einige Dinge zu verbessern. Das werden wir aber in aller Ruhe in den nächsten Tagen erledigen. Selbstverständlich werden wir auch unsere Sortimente ständig erweitern. Wir freuen uns also auf Ihren Besuch unter Incredible Caps.

Natürlich gibt es auch jede Menge Angebote zur Neueröffnung. Also schauen Sie doch einfach mal vorbei.

Im Osten nichts Neues

Im Moment gibt es nichts wirklich Neues zu berichten. Raymond und ich haben die Tage noch einmal miteinander telefoniert. Unser schriftliches Angebot werden wir am Samstag oder Sonntag erhalten. Bei der Gelegenheit werde ich noch unbedingt die Frage der Stromversorung klären müssen. Kabel-TV und High-Speed Internet Anschluß müssen ja schließlich auch noch verlegt werden. Außerdem interessiert mich natürlich, wo im Haus die einzelnen Steckdosen verbaut werden. Wie gesagt, im Moment gibt es nichts Neues. Sobald aber etwas passiert, werde ich Sie natürlich umgehend informieren.

Gerade habe ich diese Information direkt aus Kanada erhalten. Natürlich wollte ich sie Euch auf keinen Fall vorenthalten.

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA, March 20, 2009–The Honourable Jim Prentice, Minister of the Environment and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, today announced the Government of Canada’s intention to make major infrastructure improvements in national historic sites across Nova Scotia, and to the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. The announcement is part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

„Canada’s Economic Action Plan is our government’s plan to stimulate our economy during the global recession,“ said Minister Prentice. „This investment of over $25 million in iconic tourism destinations in Nova Scotia will not only help preserve and improve these treasured places. It will also support tourism in the region and help stimulate the local economy.“

Budget 2009 „Canada’s Economic Action Plan“ sets aside $75 million for improvements to visitor facilities in Canada’s national parks and national historic sites over the next two years and another $75 million for the protection of national historic sites during the same time period.

Among the projects that will be funded through Canada’s Economic Action Plan is a $14 million investment in the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton Highlands National Park, one of the most spectacular scenic drives in North America. The Trail will be repaved in some areas and also widened to accommodate cyclists and hikers.

The Halifax Defense Complex will receive $6 million for projects at the Halifax Citadel and Fort McNab National Historic Sites of Canada. At the Halifax Citadel, a new slate roof will be installed on the South Magazine and 370 metres of the stone wall, including a musketry gallery, will be stabilized. With the stabilization of Fort McNab National Historic Site, Parks Canada is ensuring the protection of this significant resource for visitors to McNab’s Island.

Other sites to receive funding in Nova Scotia include Port Royal National Historic Site ($700,000) and Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site ($2 million).

Tourism represents a significant economic opportunity for Canada and, for this reason, has been targeted in Canada’s Economic Action Plan. In 2007, the tourism sector contributed approximately $28.6 billion to the Canadian economy and employed 653,400 Canadians. As part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, the Government is delivering immediate action and investments in infrastructure. This is a targeted plan that will create and maintain jobs for today and tomorrow.

In addition to Economic Action Plan projects, Minister Prentice also announced that Parks Canada will be funding a $3.5 million project on Georges Island National Historic Site.

Parks Canada recognizes the great potential of Georges Island National Historic Site of Canada to become a world-class tourism attraction, and will develop basic infrastructure such as wharf facilities, electricity and water in order to facilitate visitor experiences on the Island.

„National parks and national historic sites are important contributors to Nova Scotia’s tourism economy,“ said the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway. „Our Government values the status of each and every one of these protected heritage areas. This investment will address pressing capital needs and help to ensure that these treasured parks and sites remain thriving for years to come.“

While in Nova Scotia, Minister Prentice also announced that he recently approved the management plans for a number of national historic sites in Nova Scotia including: St. Peters Canal and St. Peters National Historic Site; Canso Islands and Grassy Island Fort National Historic Sites; and, the Halifax Defence Complex which includes the Halifax Citadel, York Redoubt, Fort McNab, and the Prince of Wales Tower National Historic Sites of Canada.

„These management plans will guide future activities in these national historic sites so they are protected and preserved while at the same time provide excellent experiences for the visitor,“ said Minister Prentice. „I’d like to offer my thanks to all the stakeholders, residents and visitors who have contributed to the development of these plans.“

Parks Canada works to ensure that Canada’s historic and natural heritage is presented and protected for the enjoyment, education and appreciation of all Canadians, today and in the future. Through a network of 42 national parks, 158 national historic sites, and three national marine conservation areas, Parks Canada sets the stage and invites Canadians, as well as people from around the world, to engage in personal moments of inspiring discovery of our treasured natural and historic places.

Point Pelee mag einer der kleinsten Nationalparks Kanadas sein, aber er gehört zweifelslos zu den Bemerkenswerten. Schuld daran ist auch, aber nicht ausschließlich, die Lage: Point Pelee ist der südlichste Punkt des kanadischen Festlandes – er liegt auf der Höhe von Rom! Die Landzunge ragt weit in den Lake Erie hinein. Im Inland findet sich neben Marschland auch Vegetation, die sonst in den Südstaaten der USA beheimatet ist, z.B. Sykomoren (Maulbeerfeigen). Viele Zugvögel machen hier Rast, und auch die menschlichen Besucher zieht es von weit her, um die Sonnenuntergänge an der Pigeon Bay zu genießen. Nette Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten gibt es in Leamington.

In nicht allzu ferner Zukunft ist es soweit. Dann wird „Incredible Caps“ seine Online-Pforten öffnen.

Ebenso wie bei Beers n Bears, wird das gesamte Sortiment aus Kanada und den USA stammen. Einer der Schwerpunkte werden die Ligen rund um die NFL, die MLB und die PBR sein. Außerdem wird es jede Menge Caps rund um das Thema „Wild West“ geben. Der Store ist noch nicht offiziell geöffnet und wird deshalb noch mit einem Passwort gesichert. Es ist vollbracht. Raymond und ich haben nach doch recht langen Verhandlungen unser „Gentlemen-Agreement“ getroffen.

Eine sehr interessante Komponente war dabei das Verhandeln von Preisen, teilweise mit HST (Steuern) und teilweise ohne Tax. Die Preise für den Septiktank und die Straße zum Haus waren inklusive Tax. Das Haus ohne Tax.
Mir ist allerdings im Moment noch nicht richtig klar, warum das so ist bzw. war. Eine Möglichkeit könnte sein, dass die Regierung bei dem Septiktank und der Straße involviert ist. Das ist aber nur eine Vermutung. Ich werde diesbezüglich die Tage einige Freude in Kanada anrufen und versuchen eine Erklärung zu erhalten.

Wie dem auch sei. Es war schon ein ziemliches Hin und Her – gerade wenn aufaddierte Beträge mit dem Taschenrechner überprüft wurden. Unterm Strich haben wir dann aber eine Summe incl Tax gefunden, die auf beiden Rechnern gleich war.

Jetzt warte ich auf die schriftliche Bestätigung unserer Absprachen. Tja und dann geht es wohl endlich richtig los.

Nachdem die Convention 2008 schon sehr viel Spaß gemacht hat, geht es 2009 mit der gewohnten Professionalität in die nächste Runde:
